Data protection is concerned with the protection of your fundamental right to privacy, and your right to exercise control over how your personal information is used. The Data Protection Commissioner’s Office website aims to help you in exercising these rights, by giving you the information you need.

The Department’s Data Protection Code of Practice sets out the requirements of the Data Protection Acts, the steps to be taken by the Department of Education and Skills when processing personal data and how the Department will respond to requests for access to personal data.

How to Apply

Under section 4 of the Data Protection Acts, 1988 and 2003, you have a right to obtain a copy of any personal information relating to you. To access a copy of personal data held by the Department, in relation to you, please complete the Application Form for Data Access(subject access request). The completed form, along with some photographic identification (passport or drivers licence) should be returned to:
